Internships and Fighting the Cold

The weather has officially hit winter weather. We had snow on the ground for most of the week. There were still some abnormalities with some April weather with rain and it was close to 45 degrees outside but for the most part its staying cold and cold enough for snow to continue dropping. Another huge sign that winter is finally here is that the Red Cedar River has ice along its banks now. There are still a lot of ducks out sitting in the water and ice. It’s a really gorgeous site. I’m going to take some pictures this week of it because I FINALLY have a working, charging phone. I just got a replacement for my broken replacement that they gave me last week yesterday. I missed having a phone that was actually mine without having to worry about minutes and stuff. The Pay-As-You-Go phone is a good phone and its going to be an emergency phone but I missed my phone none the less. Plus now that my phone works I can upload all the pictures I didn’t get to before.

Last weekend, there was an extreme vandalism case in Landon where a person or a group of people drew very large male parts on the walls of our floor and the female half of the floor above us in permanent marker. It was so severe that they had to paint over them twice so that it was no longer visible. Currently, we don’t know who did it or why. My theory is that it was some drunk guys or girls but I don’t really know. No one was hurt or anything. This is an extremely rare case of vandalism. Usually the guys will write stupid stuff on each others’ dry erase boards but nothing escalated. This has been a very strange year for West Circle as well as MSU as a whole with the acts of vandalism that have occurred this school year.

So as I stated I got my replacement phone that actually works yesterday which means I came home. My phone wasn’t the main reason why. Yesterday I met with my middle school (7th and 8th grade) social studies teacher for the first time since I left middle school. She found me on facebook and we planned a meeting at her publishing company which she opened after she retired. The main plan of our meeting was to catch up on everything from the past four-five years. I ended up leaving with an internship this summer. I’m so excited. Because my track in one of my majors (Professional Writing) is Editing and Publishing, working there is an excellent opportunity for experience as well as growth. I truly can’t begin to explain my excitement. All the things that I loved doing when I was younger and even now on the computer are what I am learning to do at MSU and is what I am going to be doing this summer and what I hope to do in my future. This opportunity will help me gain experience and build a portfolio of what I can do. I feel like I keep repeating myself because of excitement so I’ll end it there haha.

There are a ton of sources at MSU that show how to find internships and build you resume and all sorts of advice to take and use for finding a job in the future. Writer’s Bloc does a lot of workshops teaching different skills and helping to build your resume and write it as well as a workshop on finding internships (which was just held yesterday). MSU is a great source in of itself. I just so happened to be a huge teacher’s pet when I was in school (all school) and they remembered my work and dedication. You never know who will remember you and who won’t.

I hope you all have a great weekend!
